Oren Weisfeld is an author and freelance journalist from Toronto. He covers basketball and the intersection of sports, politics, technology, and business for The Guardian, Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, VICE, SLAM, CBC, TVO, Complex, Sportsnet, Yahoo! and more.

His debut book, The Golden Generation: How Canada Became a Basketball Powerhouse (ECW Press, 2025), traces the history of men’s basketball in Canada. It has a 4.8 rating on Amazon and 4.5 on Goodreads. It’s on sale now.

Oren has freelanced for over a decade and has a track record of writing stories sports fans care about. In addition to writing profiles about NBA players Scottie Barnes and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Olympians Race Imboden and Justyn Knight, and several Canadian basketball players, he covers big intersectional topics like tanking, superteams, fandom, privacy, business, and politics. He currently writes a Canadian sports column for The Globe.

Oren regularly appears on Canadian TV, radio, and podcasts to discuss his work. He previously created and hosted three sports podcasts: “The Rap Up” postgame Youtube show; “The Sports Politics Show” on TMU Met Radio; and “Mustang Nation” on CHRW Radio Western.
