Oren Weisfeld is a freelance sports journalist and author from Toronto. He covers basketball and the intersection of sports, politics, technology, media, and business for The Guardian, Toronto Star, VICE, SLAM, CBC, TVO, Complex, Sportsnet, Yahoo! and more. He also writes opinion piece about Canadian sports for the Globe and Mail.

His debut book, The Golden Generation: How Canada Became a Basketball Powerhouse (ECW Press, 2025), traces the history of men’s basketball in Canada. It has been widely reviewed and has a 4.5 rating on Goodreads.

Oren has freelanced for over a decade and has a track record of writing stories sports fans care about. Oren regularly appears on Canadian TV, radio, and podcasts to discuss his work. He previously created and hosted three sports podcasts: “The Rap Up” postgame Youtube show; “The Sports Politics Show” on TMU Met Radio; and “Mustang Nation” on CHRW Radio Western.
